Boyfriend/Fiancé of Crash Victim Gets Arrested for Getting Confrontational at Crash

The boyfriend or fiancé of a victim in a car crash that occurred on North Van Buren and Guadalupe Streets in San Angelo Friday afternoon was arrested for interfering with public duties, said Sgt.Todd Dornhecker with the San Angelo Police Department.

Officer Ed Hunger, a traffic investigator for SAPD who was with Dornhecker at the crash site, said at about 12:45 p.m., the driver of a black Dodge pickup was traveling westbound on Guadalupe. He was at a stop sign about to make a right turn but failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign. As a result, he hit the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche on the right side door.

After the crash, the driver and passenger of the Avalanche, two females, panicked and felt they were trapped in the vehicle because the side airbags deployed.

“It startled them,” Sgt. Dornhecker said. “They couldn’t pull the door handle.”

Dornhecker also said the boyfriend or fiancé of the female driver showed up at the scene and caused problems with the young driver.

“We were investigating the accident, and he interjected several times after being told to leave many times,” Dornhecker stated. “He was confrontational with the other driver of the other vehicle who was not his relation.”

The driver of the pickup was a 17-year-old male.

Hunger said the two women in the Avalanche were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The driver of the pickup sustained no injuries, and there was no damage to his Dodge pickup. He received a citation for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign, and the boyfriend/fiancé was arrested and charged with interfering with public duties.
