17-Year-Old Abilene Woman Killed in Crash Near Mertzon

 

An Abilene teenager was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 67, four miles north of Mertzon early this morning.

According to the Texas DPS, Megan Marie Metts, 17, of Abilene was a passenger in a 1993 Dodge Ram 2500 that was headed southbound on U.S. 67 on the wrong side of the road. Driving the Ram was John Will White, 20, of Abilene.

Meanwhile, headed northbound was Jonathan Ambrose Medina, 39, of Rowena. He was driving a 2008 Ford F-450 in the correct lane of the roadway. The front, right of the Ford and Dodge trucks met, head on.

DPS said the exact location of the crash was near the U.S. 67 and CR 480 intersection.

Metts, the young woman passenger in the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene by Irion County Justice of the Peace Judge Donna Smith. White, the driver of the Dodge was airlifted to Shannon Medical Center via Airmed 1 with serious injuries. Medina, the driver of the F-450 was not seriously injured.

The crash happened at 12:05 a.m., DPS reported. The skies were clear and the roadway dry. Trooper Duke Hoy was the traffic investigator.
