One Dead in Head-On Collision Near Sterling City

 

A 31-year-old Midland man was killed in a violent car crash on Sunday, caused by a man driving on the wrong side of the road.

According to a preliminary crash report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Terry Campbell, 50, of Ballinger, was headed eastbound on state highway 158 in his 2014 Ford F-150 in the westbound lane. He was not passing, the report states. At the same time, a 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by 31-year-old Brett A. Riggle, of Midland, was traveling westbound. The vehicles collided on the front right, causing the truck to flip upside down and the caving in the front end of the Altima.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:28 p.m. about five miles west of Sterling City.

Riggle was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Dyer; Campbell was transported to Shannon Medical Center with unknown injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Next of kin have been notified.
