Downtown Crash Closes Beauregard Saturday Night

A Chevrolet Malibu and a Kia collided at the intersection of South Abe Street and West Beauregard Avenue Saturday night just after 11 p.m. Traffic was brisk with the conclusion of tonight’s rodeo performance and a busy downtown night scene.

Beauregard was blocked both directions while San Angelo police and fire rescue worked the crash scene.

The front end of the black Chevy Malibu was collapsed. The Kia took a hit on the side.

Two parties were witnessed at the scene, one of them a family with small children. The other car had a young, early 20s female. An ambulance has transported the 20-something to Shannon.

Update 11:57 p.m.

According to police, the Kia Optima was westbound on Beauregard and the Chevrolet Malibu was southbound on Abe. According to witnesses that are credible to police, the Chevy ran a red light and T-boned the Kia.

The Kia spun around twice, witnesses told police.

The driver of the Chevy was transported to Shannon Medical Center with a non-incapacitating head injury.

Police said that the Chevy had an Infant in a properly-secured child seat and there were no injuries to the child.

The Chevy Malibu driver was issued a ticket for disregarding a red light.

The intersection should be re-opened by midnight.
