18-Wheeler Downs Power Lines on Bryant in Crash

A Ford F-150 and an 18-wheeler have crashed into one another on South Bryant at the intersection with Avenue H.

In the crash, the 18-wheeler hit a power pole and brought down power lines.

The wreckage is in the southbound lanes and police are asking drivers to avoid travel on South Bryant from the Koenigheim split to Avenue L. All lanes are blocked.

The crash happened at approximately 8:15 p.m. Monday night.

According to police, both vehicles were heading north on Bryant, but the 18-wheeler was attempting to make a left turn onto Avenue H, to head westbound. The 18-wheeler was in the inside lane; the F-150 was in the outside lane. The 18-wheeler driver didn’t see the F-150 and turned into it. The feel and sound of the impact caused the semi-truck driver to pause the turn and continue straight ahead and ram into a power line pole on the northwest corner of the intersection, and roll over it.

As a result of the crash, there is a power line lying in the middle of Bryant. The semi trailer is resting on top of where the power pole once stood.

Police said there were no major injuries: one nosebleed and an injured foot.

The semi-truck driver will be given a citation for making an improper turn.

Police are uncertain as of 9 p.m. when the crash scene will be cleared and the downed power lines secured.

AEP is reporting that power is operational for all 15,439 customers served in the 76903 zip code.
