Suspected Drunk Driver Jailed After Crashing into Utility Pole

 

A 34-year-old San Angelo man was arrested early this morning on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated after crashing into a utility pole in east San Angelo.

A San Angelo Police Officer, who was driving along Rio Concho Drive near Louis Drive at the end of his shift, observed a black pickup truck off the roadway that appeared to have crashed into a utility pole. 

Additional officers were called to the scene to assist and it was determined that the driver, who did not report any injuries from the crash, was suspected of being under the influence of an intoxicant. 

Police believe the driver was eastbound on Rio Concho Drive when his 2012 Toyota Tundra left the roadway and jumped the curb before colliding with the utility pole.  The vehicle came to rest approximately 115 feet from the initial collision.  The driver was identified as Mario Luna.

Luna was issued a Citation for Crossing a Physical Barrier Curb and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.  He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.   

A male passenger, a 31-year-old San Angelo resident, was reportedly uninjured.

That was definitely a Japanese vehicle. Although as a Tundra, it was assembled in San Antonio. Perhaps Chelsea missed it because of that. I'll have to brief my writers to be extra careful in the future to note to the readers when a Japanese vehicle is involved.
