Commissioners Adopt Slightly Lower 2021 Tax Rate

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday adopted a budget and tax rate for FY21 which holds the line on spending amid the pandemic and economic lockdown.

The property tax rate for FY21 is .0037 less than the rate for FY20. Commissioners approved a tax rate of .54980 per $100 in property value, down from .55117 last fiscal year.

As we reported earlier, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott warned local governments not to increase property taxes amid the pandemic.

The Court was also dealing with a change in state law under Senate Bill 2 which affects how counties, cities and school districts set budgets and tax rates.

The FY21 tax rate of .54980 is made up of the maintenance and operation tax rate of .48333 per $100 in property value and .06647 interest in sinking rate.

The approved tax rate will generate $40,509,030.09 in revenue.

While the county sets the tax rate, the Tom Green County Tax Appraisal District sets the value of property.
