Tom Green County Commissioners: Inspection of New Jail Begins Monday

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Commissioners announced Tuesday that the new jail will be inspected by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards beginning Monday in preparation for moving inmates from the old jail into the new facility.

Pct. 3 Commissioner Rick Bacon said during the regular meeting that after the inspection the Jail Standards Commission will issue a letter of occupancy and they can begin transferring inmates from the old jail to the new one.

The new jail was scheduled to open in January but concerns about coronavirus made it difficult for contractors to keep workers onsite.

Officials have not released the exact date the new jail will be occupied.

County officials and representatives of White Construction had a conference call with the Jail Standards Commission on Thursday.
