Commissioners Approve Publishing Proposed Salary Increase for Elected Officials

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Commissioners have unanimously voted to publish a maximum two percent pay raise for county elected officials during their Tuesday morning meeting.

The court considered a two or three percent increase before settling on two percent.  After the required public notice to raise the salaries of all 27 elected county officials including their own, commissioners will then hold a vote next month to adopt the salaries for fiscal year 2018.

Once the court votes on elected official’s salaries, those elected officials have ten days to contest the salaries.  If any elected official disputes their salary, a salary grievance hearing would be held.

The court has budgeted for a 1.5 percent salary increase for all county employees plus funding for merit raises.  County Judge Steve Floyd says that equates to a 2.52 percent pay raise for all employees.

Commissioners could vote for no raise for elected officials or any amount up to two percent after the notice is published.

In other business, commissioners took no action on a burn ban, meaning burning brush and trash is still allowed in the county.

The court also approved two final subdivision plats for phase II in Buffalo Heights and named a private road in southern Tom Green County Lineman Road.

Commissioners began their Tuesday meeting with a closed executive session but took no action in open court on any items discussed in the closed session.
