Local Novelists Start Writing Frenzy

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) was celebrated with a kick off at the Stephens Central Library Sugg Community Room on Friday.

Interested parties showed up for information on NaNoWriMo, and Kevin Blinn, Librarian for the North Branch, was there with his ‘Wrimo’ experience.

“I’ve been doing this since 2006,” said Blinn, “I wanted to do something to feel accomplished.”

Among the attendees was Joe Weaver, a two-time participant in NaNoWriMo, looking for his third time to be the charm.

“My daughter, she’s written for five years,” he said with a smile, “I told her it [her book] was so good that I will pay to have it published.”

Then one year his daughter challenged him to do it with her. The next year he did it again to prove that he wasn’t a “one book wonder.”

To which Blinn said, “Well you already out-booked Harper Lee,” to many laughs in the room.

This time the newcomer to San Angelo is once again up for the challenge.

During the month of November, as it is NaNoWriMo, LIVE! will be following the progress of Weaver as he writes his third ‘Wrimo’ novel.

Check back with us periodically to find out how he is doing.

It’s not too late to start your own ‘Wrimo’ novel, check out nanowrimo.org and tgclibrary.com to get involved with the local ‘Wrimos.’
