Eight year old children tossing an axe sounds like a terrible and dangerous idea. Then adults that can say hold my beer and watch this.

Like anything else, it comes down to training and supervision. If these places do not emphasize safety they would be out of business in no time. For example, if they even suspect a patron is impaired, they are not allowed to participate. I first heard about this back in 2018 in Iowa. It is such a popular pastime, the places are booked weeks in advance. And I have yet to hear about one casualty.

The facility in Abilene also has a trailer mounted rig for parties. There were over a dozen 11 and 12 year olds throwing axes for a couple of hours in the back yard next to us. No dead, no wounded, and no arrests, which is safer than a party in San Antonio or the Valley. It did sound like the kids (and the adults) had a lot of fun and they were all outside.

Give it a try before judging it.

Oh, yay! Axes and liquor, what could possibly go wrong. Just don't go to the ER; they're full up and your head wound will go to the bottom of the list.
