SAN ANGELO, TX -- It is time again for this year's annual San Angelo Fire Department's Fill-the-Boot.
SAFD personnel along with the San Angelo Firefighters Association will be at 4 different intersections in town on November 6-8 collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in our fire boots.
2019 marks 65 years of partnership between the International Association of Firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association in "Fill the Boot."
Since 1954 the IAFF and MDA have together collected well over $600 million that goes to fund: more than 150 research projects around the world; maintain a nationwide network of 200 medical clinics, including more than 43 MDA/ALS centers, for diagnostic and follow-up care; provide equipment repairs for those in need; and sponsor over 3,500 kids, ages 6-17, that suffer from Muscle Disease to attend over 80 summer camps— all at no cost to campers’ families and created specifically for youngsters with neuromuscular diseases — across the United States.
SAFD and the Local 886 Fire Fighter Association chapter love getting to participate in this campaign that benefits such a worthy cause. Fill the Boot allows San Angeloans to donate to those who do or possibly will suffer from a Muscle Disease and it allows SAFD personnel to be "in the streets" interacting with the public.
Anything that can be donated is gladly accepted and greatly appreciated....give a penny, give $10....it all adds up and it ALL helps those who greatly need it! The SAFD would love for San Angeloans to drop some $ in our boot all 3 days. SAFD will collect and then, with help from San Angelo Federal Credit Union, hand count every cent donated.
All personnel at the intersections are still on duty and are still in service making them available to respond to 911 calls. The 2018 Fill the Boot total was over $55,000 and SAFD is looking to beat that mark in 2019. Please be mindful of the firefighters as we are moving as careful as possible through traffic to collect donations.
