Buyers Spend $950,000 at 2019 San Angelo Stock Show Premium Sale

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo area businesses and individuals worked together Saturday to pool money for winning stock show entries in the 2019 San Angelo Stock Show. At the final show of the San Angelo rodeo, the Cinch Chute-Out, rodeo announcer Boyd Polhamus announced that over $950,000 was raised during 2019's sale. This year's total comes in at about $150,000 more than 2018. The money raised in the auction goes directly to the student, usually a 4-H or FFA participant, who raised the winning livestock animal.

The Premium Sale was held at 2 p.m.in the Gandy Ink sale pavilion in the showbarn at the San Angelo Fairgrounds after three weeks of stock shows.

The top animals in the market steer, market goat, market barrow and market lamb competitions made the annual sale where buyers pay a premium to the exhibitors for their animals.

The exhibitors use the money for college scholarships or new animal projects for next year.

The grand champion and reserve grand champion entries are the first eight animals auctioned in the premium sale.

In all, 140 exhibitors participated in the auction.  Another 82 were eligible for add on money only.  That's where individuals pay money to the exhibitors outside the premium sale auction.

The following results don't include add on money for the top eight animals.  We will update this story when those numbers are released.

Beef is still king in Texas so the Grand Champion Steer was the first auction animal.

Congrats to these fine upstanding youths. The real accomplishment is setting a goal, performing the work to achieve it, then receiving a reward. Capitalism, don't you love it, Yantis? Oh wait, you support socialism.
