FDA Recalls 12 Million Pounds of Beef Sold at Walmart and Other Retailers

SAN ANGELO, TX-- More than twelve million pounds of ground beef is being recalled due to a salmonella outbreak.

The outbreak has already sickened 246 people in over 26 states as of now, but be wary when buying ground beef.

The brands of ground beef are Cedar River Farms, Comnor Perfect Choice, Gourmet Burger, Grass Run Farms, and Showcase, which is sold at Walmart.

59 of the people that got food poisoning were hospitalized because of it.

"FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen," and to consume ground beef only if it has been cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, the FSIS said in a statement. "Other cuts of beef should be cooked to a temperature of 145°F and allowed to rest for at least three minutes."

JBS Tolleson, the company that processes the beef, recalled 6.9 million pounds of ground beef in October. Now they have made another recall another 5.2 million lbs.

A JBS owned Swiss Beef facility in Utah was also shutdown in november and was forced to recall over 100,000 lbs of products due to a concern the products had E-coli.
