Health Foundation Grants Totaled $1.9 Million in 2017

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Board Chair Mike Boyd announced the San Angelo Health Foundation has awarded $208,700 to 16 area non-profit organizations, bringing Foundation commitments to over $1.9 million for the year.  Approximately 204 organizations and 678 projects have benefited from Foundation funding in over 20 years of grant making. 

Grants Chair Marilyn Aboussie said the following grants encompass human services, mental health services, civic activities and youth development:

West Texas Counseling and Guidance Center was awarded $104,976 for a staff recruitment and retention program. West Texas Counseling & Guidance has been providing professional counseling services to the Concho Valley since 1976. They provide outreach services to survivors of suicide, a veterans program and have satellite offices in Brady, Eden, Junction, Ozona, Menard and Sonora. The Counseling Center has seen a 30 percent increase in clients since moving to the Cactus Hotel.  

Salvation Army was awarded $27,868 to purchase beds, bed frames, kitchen equipment and washers and dryers. The Salvation Army is the only emergency shelter in San Angelo who welcomes men, women and children.  Since 1901 they have been providing emergency shelter, food, clothing and other assistance to the less fortunate in our community.

San Angelo Area Foundation was awarded $25,000 for the amplification fund for the San Angelo Gives program to be held in May 2018. This is a one day, 24-hour online fundraising effort to benefit local charities, which generated $1.4 million in donations this year.

Girl Scouts of Central Texas was awarded $22,856 to renovate the San Angelo Service Center. The Girl Scouts have been operating since 1934 in the Concho Valley. The Girl Scouts serves over 700 girls in San Angelo.

Unsolicited seasonal assistance grants for 11 organizations totaling $28,000 were also awarded for holiday programming needs to:

  • Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council,
  • Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo,
  • Children’s Advocacy Center,
  • Concho Valley Home for Girls/Children's Emergency Shelter,
  • House of Faith,
  • ICD Family Shelter,
  • MOSAIC San Angelo,
  • Salvation Army,
  • San Angelo Early Childhood Center,
  • San Angelo State Supported Living Center Volunteer Services Council, and
  • West Texas Boys Ranch.
