San Angelo Businesses Get Schooled

For those with a dream of opening a business without any idea of how to go about it, or those who know all about conducting business but find those financial documents a tad tricky, the Business Resource Center on Chadbourne offers a variety of advice for the startups.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is a resource for new business owners, as well as old dogs learning new tricks.

One way SBDC helps is by offering the Small Business Management Certificate Program, an eight-week course on writing business plans, marketing, financials, legal help, and taxes.

“We have owners, people looking to start a business, and those who’ve already started up,” said Dave Erickson, Director of SBDC as he explained the clientele.

Those participating attend eight seminars, one per week, and receive a certificate complete with a graduation ceremony.

The cost is $50 for the seminars, course materials, notebook, ceremony and certificate, and payment is due before the client’s first seminar.

If the eight-week program is too demanding, there is an online do-it-yourself option that allows the client to attend the next ceremony after they complete the course.

The Seminars are 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday starting Oct. 22 until the graduation ceremony on Dec. 17.
