The suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting in Mertzon yesterday has been identified. 

Six Illegal Aliens were arrested by Border Patrol Agents and booked into the Tom Green County Jail Tuesday.

IRION COUNTY, TX — He was shot and killed by law enforcement, according to the Texas DPS.

MERTZON, TX — Troopers from the Texas DPS along with Irion County Sheriff's Deputies are gathering information from multiple sources and will update us tonight. DPS said this is in reference to the murder suspect who evaded law enforcement in the brushlands of Irion County for over 24 hours before he was discovered this afternoon inside the city limits of Mertzon, shot, and killed by law enforcement.

MERTZON, TX — A DPS trooper was witnessed running hot southbound on US 67 just after 4 p.m. Shortly thereafter, we received unconfirmed reports that a Irion County Sheriff's Deputy had "shot someone."

The San Angelo Police Department needs help identifying the male subject in the photographs above and below. 

He is described as a White male, thin build, blue jeans, brown boots, blonde / light brown hair.
 He is armed and dangerous.

Suspect is still suspected to be around the S curve on 2469 a few miles from Mertzon.

A San Angelo City Marshal arrested Luis Daniel Esparza, 40, on a Grand Jury Indictment Warrant for Burglary of a Building (FS), Failure to Spay/Neuter, and FTA X1.

SAN ANGELO, TX — According to Joe Cuevas of San Angelo, “The craziest thing happened to me today…” He wasn’t kidding. The fugitive ditched the black 2014 Ford Mustang he stole from the Odessa homeowner he murdered. The location of the ditching was about 1/2-mile from his job site in Irion County. Cuevas works for a piping and fencing company who and was apparently working on a fence line near Mertzon when the fugitive appeared seemingly out of no where and stole his Tahoe at gunpoint.

At least two DPS helicopters and a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft are circling an area west of Mertzon, presumably for the fleeing murder suspect. 

An “endangered” runaway female subject was located a little after midnight this morning.
