The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum & Cultural Center Presents “Tierra Sagrada by Jesus Toro Martinez” & “Galactic Warriors and Gods From The Yucatan” by Andy Villarreal. The exhibitions will be displayed at the Coop Gallery 427 S. Oakes St. and Gallery Verde 417 S. Oakes St. From January 6 - February 24 Saturdays, 11 am-4 pm Sundays, 1 am-4 pm; and Weekdays, by Appointment only. Tierra Sagrada artwork is composed of art that showcases a visual statement about our modern world. Jesus toro Martinez dedicates most of his time to using and collecting scraps of damaged materials used as inspiration for his work. Martinez’s artwork showcases the importance of keeping our planet green by recycling materials transformed into beautiful art. (Location: Coop Gallery)
Galactic Warriors And Gods From The Yucatan artwork’s artistic influence derives from Andy’s personal experiences acquired during his travels to Europe, the US Southwest, East and West coasts, and especially the Mayan Indigenous cultures, which became his primary source of inspiration. His artworks combine history, Mayan mythology, and ancient religion. Andy’s work emphasizes the human condition, struggles, harmony, social injustice, and celebration of life.
