Made in Texas! and The Angelo State University Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition
The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibits: Made in Texas! and The Angelo State University Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition. The Opening Reception is free to the public and live music and refreshments will be provided, on Friday July 13 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Made in Texas! celebrates the culture and citizens of the Lone Star State. It is a juried exhibit of unique and distinctive quilts made by artists from all across Texas, showcasing 25 quilts with subjects ranging from state geography, flora, agriculture, people, and quilt culture to pictorial memories of Texas artists. These quilts are selected from the full exhibit which premiered at the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange, Texas, last year.
“Texas has a long, rich tradition of quilt making, from Hispanic needleworkers embroidering quilts in the 18th century and pioneers appliquéing and piecing quilts in the 19th century to the founding of the first Texas quilt guild in 1976,” Texas Quilt Museum Curator Dr. Sandra Sider says. “Today, we have more than 100 quilt guilds across the state, with their works exhibited in local and regional shows that feature the broad range of Texan quilting talent. Made in Texas! brings our viewers a statewide sampling of some of the best quilts being created by today’s artists.”
The Angelo State University Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition features the work of the talented faculty members of Angelo State University’s Art Department. Each one of these dedicated instructors is an active and accomplished artist. This dynamic and varied exhibit will feature new works by Esteban Apodaca, Katherine Bunker (Kat Truth), Edwin Cuenco, Ralph Randall “Randy” Hall, Chris Stewart, Ben Sum, John Vinklarek, and Chris Voss, in a broad range of media including painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, photography, sculpture, graphic design, video, and installation. These exhibits will run through September 9.
