WASHINGTON – United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts slammed the leaked memo that rocked the country about overturning Roe v. Wade. Roberts called the leak an egregious breach of trust.
"To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the
integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the Court will not be affected
in any way," Roberts said. "We at the Court are blessed to have a workforce – permanent employees and law clerks alike – intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law," he said. "Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court. This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work
here."
The leak has rocked the political world because overturning the decades old federal protection of abortion would fundamentally change the country.
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas blamed Democrat operatives for the leak. "The fact that this draft was leaked, as someone who spent an entire career litigating before the Supreme Court, I’m utterly horrified. I’ve never seen anything remotely like this," Cruz told reporters in a hallway on Capitol Hill. "I am certain that all nine justices right now are unsure how the court can continue to proceed, unsure of how the court can be able to decide cases if the vicious partisan politicking that categorizes today’s Democrat Party now becomes how employees of the court operate, that is an incredible threat to our independent judiciary."
Speculation is circulating in D.C. that the Biden Administration could retaliate by packing the Supreme Court or use the measure as a political tool to sway voters in November and again in the 2024 Presidential election.

PermalinkAnd there is a very significant difference between being pro-abortion and pro-choice. I am one and not the other. Further, in support of your point, the economically disadvantaged will be far more negatively impacted by the overturn or weakening of Roe. We will return to the pre-Roe days of women coming to their local ER suffering from the aftermath of botched amateurish abortions... or dying.

PermalinkThe heart beat laws aren’t a compromise they are as far as you can go with the current laws, and actually even further than you can go as many of them would have be overturned. The heartbeat laws are stop gap until the have the authority to outright ban which is coming soon. Their is a word for folks who see everything their side does as a compromise but I won’t use it here anymore.
