Midland Water System Likely Will Be Back to Normal Saturday Morning

MIDLAND, TX — The City of Midland announced that its boil notice on its water system may be lifted as early as Saturday morning.

City of Midland Utilities director Carl Craigo said that the water supply line break has been mostly repaired and that clean water has been running through the water system since 1 a.m. Friday morning.

The contamination caused by the incoming water supply line break will require the City to flush 500,000 gallon of water. Craigo said there will be a spectacle of water running everywhere on TX-158 just north of its intersection with TX-191. The system will require flushing two times, 250,000 gallons each. The City is also flushing water out of fire hydrants throughout Midland.

After the water system has been flushed, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will test the water. Once the water system passes the test, Midland’s water supply will be back to normal and the boil water notice lifted.

The City scheduled a press conference at 8 a.m. Saturday morning where the City expects to announce the results of the tests run by TCEQ. The City expects the tests to green light ending the water boil notice. Should the TCEQ tests arrive earlier, City officials will announce the lifting of the notice via press release and social media.

City officials said that even if a premises’ water is first cleaned with a reverse osmosis water treatment, the boil water requirement is still in effect. In fact, the officials said that after the water system is cleared, those with RO systems will need to flush their on-premises water filtration devices.

While awaiting the water to be cleared for drinking, the City of Midland is distributing bottled water at various locations around the city.
