Rapidly Spreading Fire in Parker County Shuts Down I-20

PARKER COUNTY, TX. -- Smoke from the massive Parker County grass fire is making visibility very difficult for drivers along Interstate 20. As a result, I-20 is shut down in both directions in Willow Park and even impacting I-30.

The fire caused the evacuation of two schools while lifting a plume of smoke into the air that is visible more than 60 miles away.

The fire is burning through an area along I-20 near Walsh Ranch Parkway, west of I-30 and I-20 merge. The fire is flooding the highway with blinding smoke and backing up traffic toward Loop 820 in Tarrant County. Both directions of I-20 and I-30 have been closed to traffic and drivers in the area are urged to use extreme caution.

The fire has consumed more than 200 acres and has forced more than dozens from their homes.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire is located southeast of Willow Park; the smoke plume could be seen from satellite imagery released from the National Weather Service Fort Worth.

Crews were seen wrangling a herd of cattle to safety near the fire, too.

A second large fire in Parker County has been reported southwest of Springtown.
