TXDOT Brownwood Sends Workers to Help with Hurricane Response

BROWNWOOD, TX – The Texas Department of Transportation’s Brownwood District is assisting with statewide efforts as Hurricane Harvey pushes towards the Texas coast.

As of Friday morning, 17 crew members representing most counties in the Brownwood District have joined TxDOT forces from across the state at a large staging facility in Bryan. Once Harvey makes landfall and the strongest winds subside, the crews staged in Bryan will be dispatched across impacted areas of South Texas.

The Brownwood District crews will primarily assist with debris removal from roadways, and have taken a fleet of heavy equipment including dump trucks, front end loaders and other specialized machinery. Other Brownwood District crew members will assist with traffic signal and sign repair, two-way radio communications, and response logistics.

Local TxDOT crews will stay in South Texas as long as needed following Harvey’s landfall. We will continue to provide updates on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TxDOTBWD.

Statewide road conditions and traffic updates are available on DriveTexas.org and on Facebook, www.facebook.com/txdotand Twitter, www.twitter.com/txdot. If you see barricades or water over a road, please do not go around them and do not attempt to cross the road – Turn Around; Don’t Drown.
