Former Anson Police Chief Charged with Sexual Assault of a Child

ANSON, Texas- Yesterday, a jury convicted Patrick Neal Hawthorne, a former Anson Police Chief, with two counts of sexual assault of a child and received a seven-year prison sentence for each count.

KTXS explained that the 259th District Attorney’s Office Investigator, Jack Thompson, said that Judge Brooks Hagler ordered Hawthorne’s sentence to be served “stacked," or to run "consecutively."

Thompson added, “Hawthorne will serve a 14-year sentence and [be] required to serve seven years before he is eligible for parole.”

Hagler had a previous trial in October that was delayed when the defense declared a mistrial. The defense was not aware of the amount of phone calls and/or messages used as communication between Hawthorne and the teen victim.

KTXS stated, “The defense was aware of only one call or message between Hawthorne and the victim, who was 16 at the time, but Hagler learned the Texas Rangers had record of 18 to 20 such telephone calls or messages.”

During the trial, the teen victim took the stand and testified against Hawthorne. The teen testified that she and Hawthorne had sex twice in his trailer in Hawley. She recalled that the dates were Oct. 22 and Nov. 1 of 2014.

The teen also added that a third sexual encounter took place in his truck in an alley in Anson sometime after Nov. 1.
