TABC App Gives Texans Power to Maintain Public Safety

This week, a new Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission smartphone app made its debut. According to a press release, the app allows members of the public to do their part to promote public safety by reporting breaches of the peace and other incidents that occur inside businesses licensed by the TABC.

The mobile app is available for Apple iOS and Android smart devices.

"The app uses GPS technology to show users the location of nearby TABC-licensed establishments, including information about businesses [that] have applied for a new liquor license or permit," said the release.

Chris Porter, TABC Public Information Officer, said, "TABC:Mobile gives users quick and easy access to TABC's entire public data system. Whether you're looking for information on a specific establishment, or want to know the name of a new club [that] opened across town, TABC:Mobile makes the data available in moments with a user-friendly interface."

With the app's search function, users can search for specific liquor license or permit types, or they can search for all establishments in their area. The app also allows users to file a complaint against a TABC-licensed business for alleged violations, including serving alcohol to minors, intoxicated customers or employees, illegal gambling, breaches of the peace or other violations. Licensed retailers can also use the app to report a breach of the peace at their establishment.

"TABC:Mobile serves as a direct line of communication between TABC and the public from anywhere at any time," Porter said. "The app allows retailers to report a breach of the peace at their business as required by the Alcoholic Beverage Code and agency rules. It's our hope that this new tool will keep those lines of communication open while promoting the safe and lawful sale of alcohol in Texas."
