WATCH: Trinity Christian's Explosive 3rd Quarter Felled the Bobcats Win Streak

SAN ANGELO — The San Angelo Central Bobcats (17-4) hosted the Trinity Christian Lions (15-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Central High School at 6:15 p.m.

The ‘Cats played solid defense throughout the game, but missed shots and turnovers ultimately allowed the Lions to pull off the victory. The Bobcats gained much-needed experience against a talented team as they prepared for district play.

Initially, the game went back and forth between the two teams throughout the first half. At the break, the ‘Cats trailed by five, 32-27.

The Lions exploded in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 22-10. The ‘Cats played good defense for the most part, but Trinity Christian did not miss. The Lions blew the game open with four three-point shots in a row, 54-37.

In the 4th quarter, the Bobcats went on a run to get back within eight points with five minutes left. Jacob English, Dre Young, Jaedyn Gipson, and Christian English led the way to get the ‘Cats back in it.

However, Jaedyn Gipson, who sat out the 3rd quarter due to could trouble, took a forearm to the face that busted his nose. Gipson did not return to the game. Clutch shots by the Lions and missed threes by the Bobcats in the final minutes left this one out of reach. The Bobcats fell to Trinity Christian 65-51.

Christian “Squeaky” English led the Bobcats with 13 points, while Dre Young added 11 points.

In better news, the Junior Varsity beat Trinity Christian in the early game 61-22.

The San Angelo Central Bobcats (17-4) return to action on Saturday, Jan. 3, against China Spring at 6:15 p.m.
