No. 5 Hawks Bounce Back Against TLCA Behind Three Home Runs, Heuertz Five RBIs

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The fifth-ranked Wall Hawks bounced back from their loss against Reagan County with a dominant 19-7 win over district front-runner TLCA.

Wall junior Gage Weishun started the scoring in the top of the first inning by driving Caleb Heuertz in on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The scoring went quiet until Wall's starting pitcher Dryden Virden helped his own cause with a two-run shot to center field. Weishuhn followed Virden's lead in the next at-bat by driving a solo shot over the left field wall to put the Hawks up 4-0.

The Hawks would tack on five more runs on two hits in the top of the fourth to take a 9-0 lead.

Heuertz would lead off the top of the fifth with Wall's third home run of the game, this one to left field as well. Tanner Seider scampered home on an error with two outs to extend Wall's lead to 11-0.

Heuertz finished the day 3-for-4 with a team leading four RBIs and five runs scored.

Virden would leave the pitcher's mound after four innings in which he was charged with four runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts. Mark Nikolauk came on in relief in the fifth inning but only recorded two outs.

Mitchell Horton came off the bench to close out the game in an inning-and-a-third. The senior struck out four while allowing one run on one hit.

The Eagles started to chip away at Wall's lead in the very same fifth inning by plating six runs on three hits. Three runs for TLCA in the inning came from bases loaded walks.

But the Hawks would pull away with eight unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh frames to go up 19-6.

TLCA would plate one more run in the seventh when Thomas Laney came around to score on a double from Cody Zapata.

Zapata went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run score to be TLCA's lone player with multiple hits in the loss.

Laney started on the hill for the Eagles, going three-and-two-thirds innings with nine runs on six hits, seven walks and three strikeouts. TLCA's starter was charged with the loss.

Wall (16-6-1, 3-1) move into a tie for first place with Reagan County, who holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Hawks travel to Grape Creek ( for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday, April 3.
