Bobcats Fall to Lubbock Monterey, Beat Coronado to Open Season

LUBBOCK, TX-- The Central Bobcat's baseball team dropped their season opener 4-2 to Lubbock Monterey on Thursday before beating Lubbock Coronado 6-2 Friday afternoon.

In Thursday's game, Central opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI ground out by Nixon Brannon to score Rance Rosas. Mickey Cruz would score on a passed ball in the second to give Central a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Monterey opened their scoring in the third inning with a two-run single by Luke Watson to tie it at two runs apiece.

In the fourth inning, the Plainsmen took the lead for good thanks to RBI singles by Roman Rangel and Bobby Roberts to make it 4-2 Monterey.

Jonathan Limon was saddled with the loss after he went four-and-two-thirds of an inning for the Bobcats. Limom allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out six.

In Friday's game, the Bobcats used a four-run fourth inning to power their way past the Coronado Mustangs.

Oscar Nino put the Bobcats up 1-0 in the second inning after scoring thanks to an error by Coronado's catcher.

Rance Rosas would kick off the two out rally in the fourth with an RBI single to score Cole Nelson and make it 2-0 Central. The very next batter, Blake Mikeska, would single to left field and notch an RBI with Nino scoring from third. An error on the Mustang's left fielder would then plate two more runs for the Bobcats and give them a 5-0 lead.

Coronado would cut in to Central's lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI ground out and sac-fly to make it 5-2 Central after four frames.

A second error by the Coronado left fielder would enable Nelson to score from second base on a single by Nino.

Noah Perez got the win on the mound for the Bobcats going five-and-a-third innings and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six Mustangs.

The Bobcats are now 1-1 on the season and play Denton later today in Lubbock.
