No. 7 Wall Spoils Grape Creek's Senior Night

GRAPE CREEK, TX-- The No. 7 Wall Hawks put up another dominant performance to defeat Grape Creek on their senior night with a final score of 72-24.

“I feel we competed from the tip and I think that's just the key for us, competing every position,” said Wall Head Coach Brian Blackburn. “I thought our guys did that from the start. So I'm extremely pleased with our competitive spirit and that's something we really talked about this week.

Dribble penetration to the interior defense of the Eagles by Sterlyn Hartman opened up perimeter shots for the Eagles throughout the game.

Baylor Halfmann was a prime target for Hartman in the first quarter draining three consecutive shots from behind the arc.

Wall stayed dominant in the second quarter as they continued to stay hot from the perimeter and worked the ball to the interior of the Grape Creek defense.

Going into the half Wall held a commanding 39-12 lead, while Grape Creek struggled to find any answers on both sides of the ball.

The third quarter wasn't much of a different story with Wall's floor general Hartman leading the charge with a game high 17 points.

“Sterlyn has been our leader all year,” said Blackburn. “Today it wasn't necessarily scoring early on, but it was distributing and getting it to his teammates. Once they started changing defenses I think Sterlyn started finding his rhythm offensively.”

Wall’s impressive defense held strong as well in the third and fourth quarter only allowing Grape Creek to only 12 points in the second half to finish the game with the final of 72-24 in favor of the Hawks.

Wall (27-2, 9-0) will have a tougher match when they face Sonora (12-7, 5-3) next at home in their final district game on Feb. 13 at 6:30 pm.
