Dominant Second Half for No. 9 Wall Gives Hawks Win in Battle of the Birds
SAN ANGELO, TX-- The 9th-ranked Wall Hawks do not skip a beat, defeating the TLCA Eagles 64-29 in a battle of free throws. The deficit for the Eagles did not fully set in until the second half, as at halftime they only trailed by two points.
“I think we fought pretty good in the first half,” said Head Coach Kent Sherrill of TLCA “Then in the third quarter shots weren't going down.”
TLCA’s Jevon Everitt was all over the court working hard for his team. Everitt put up over 15 points of his own, as well as getting under the rim to aggressively snag any rebounds. With all the whistle blowing, the Eagles could count on Everitt to sink each free throw opportunity he was given.
The abundant amount of fouls really exposed each teams players individually and put the pressure on. Thus meaning it was back to the fundamentals that would really matter.
“When we would foul them, they took advantage of it and made the free throws,” Sherrill said “When we went to the line, we didn’t knock two of them down,” Sherrill continued.
Wall was about 80% accurate for their free throws, while TLCA was a tad behind being 75% on.
Brandon Dusek of the Hawks overcame a bloody finger injury, and still managed to account for over 10 of Wall’s points. Brandon was sure to make his minutes count.
The Wall Hawks continue to soar through district undefeated, now 8-0. Grape Creek is up next for the Hawks, as the Hawks continue on the road this week.
TLCA on the other hand falls to 1-8 in district play. The Eagles will face Reagan County next in Big Lake.
