Lake View's Hot Start Not Enough Against Snyder

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Lake View Chiefs fell 69-39 against the Snyder Tigers at home on Monday.

The Chiefs started the game with an 11-0 run and looked to have control of the game.

"We saw quick feet and the proper rotations in our full court press," Lake View Head Coach Courtney Bliskey said. "We were more active, I thought, out of the gate. They were good signs, but unfortunately we weren't able to carry it all the way through."

Snyder would go on a 7-2 run to close out the second quarter, making it 13-7 Lake View.

The Tiger's junior guard Nathan Kendrick cut Lake View's lead to three when he nailed three-pointer early in the second. Right after Kendrick's three, sophomore Jayden Samaniego would make it a one point game with a layup for Snyder.

Lake View would respond with a made shot in the lane by Rudy Coronado to push the Chief's lead back to three.

After the Tigers made it 15-14 midway through the second, Tyler Vandergrift made a pair of free-throws to give Snyder their first lead of the game at 16-15.

Senior Isaiah English would give Lake View the lead again at 17-16 after a jumper on the right side of the lane. However, that lead was short lived.

Snyder would then go on an 8-2 run to close out the first half leading 24-19.

Out of the break, Lake View's Dylan Hart would make it a one-possession game with a layup on the right side of the basket.

Snyder's Alonzo Wesley then saw that as his time to get the hot hand. Wesley connected on two consecutive three balls to make the score 30-21 in the third. From that point on, Snyder raced by the Chiefs on the back of Wesley's 20 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc.

"It just seems like, lately, teams are able to hit the three ball on us," Bliskey said. "I mean we're there. We're defending like we're supposed to and they're just hitting [threes]."

Bliskey would go on to praise his team's rebounding as a byproduct of the influx of three pointers.

Isaiah English and Rudy Coronado led the Chiefs in scoring, each with eight points.

The Chiefs fall to 3-11 on the year and will next take on Odessa High School in Odessa this Friday.
