Undefeated Sonora Shuts Out Coleman in First Playoff Round

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Sonora Broncos are Division II 3-A Bi-District Champions after shutting out the Coleman Bluecats 43-0 at San Angelo Stadium Thursday night.

“We started off good. That’s what we wanted to do,” Sonora Head Coach Jeff Cordell said. “We wanted to start off fast and put some points on the board, and make our opponent play catch up and that’s exactly what we did tonight.”

Sonora was on fire early on as they dominated Coleman on both sides of the ball.

Sonora’s quarterback Kaden Cordell led the Broncos offense with ease throughout the night and added an interception on defense as well.

Cordell led the Broncos to an early touchdown pass to Wesley Dutton who exploded for 67-yards after the catch.

Coleman would drive the ball down the field on their next possession, but would turn the ball over on downs.

Sonora capitalized on the turnover by Coleman with a 46-yard touchdown by Jarrett Jackson with a minute left in the first quarter.

Going into the second, the Broncos would get the ball again after another turnover on downs by the Coleman Bluecats.

Sonora would again take advantage of the Bluecats turnover on a quarterback keeper by Cordell that put the Broncos up 21-0 early in the second quarter.

After getting the ball back late in the first half Cordell drove the Broncos downfield and capped the possession off with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jackson.

At the half Sonora had a commanding 28-0 lead over a Coleman team that would continue to struggle.
