San Angelo Central Beats Down an Amarillo Tascosa Scare, Making 2017 a Perfect 10-0 Regular Season
SAN ANGELO, TX—In a close battle between the Central Bobcats and the Amarillo Tascosa Rebels, the Bobcats came out on top 35-26.
But surprisingly the Rebels rounded up more offensive yards, a comparison of about 420 to 380. Tascosa had a strong presence on the field when they tucked the ball and began to run. Whereas Central racked up their yards in the air.
“It’s a tough team, it’s a good football team.” Coach Brent Davis of the Bobcats said about the Rebels.

The Tascosa Rebels rang in six first when Zabrian King shot off the line into the end zone from one yard out. King later put up another six from rushing. He was the only Rebel to make it into the end zone in the first half.
The classic QB Maverick McIvor to WR Jesse Scott combination was Central's go-to to for their first points on the board. The 30-yard pass put them in the lead as their extra point was good. McIvor ran one in himself in the second quarter as well. Cody Parker was also a standout player early in the match. He managed to find the end zone in the second quarter to give the Bobcats a slight lead going into the locker rooms.
The second half was just as much as a battle as the first, Central could not seem to get into their normal powerful rhythm. The two teams kept it an eye for an eye in the second half, each only scoring twice.
Central’s points were both from hands of the mighty McIvor. One of which he rushed in from the red zone to finish a tough drive. And the other was a short pass to Henry Teeter in the corner of the end zone. McIvor ended the night with around 270 total offensive yards.
McIvor stated that, “It was an up and down game”, and that’s exactly what tonight was.

While it seemed to be a closer game than some would have expected, Coach Davis added that, “May be the best game we played in a while”. He is certainly proud of his District Champion Central Bobcats.
The Bobcats will face El Paso Pebble Hills in the bi-district round of playoffs next Friday at 7 p.m. in San Angelo.
