LIVE! Game of the Week: Can TLCA Continue Their Run Against Colorado City?

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Oh how the times have changed for the TLCA Eagles. I'll preface this by saying there's still a lot to prove for TLCA this season. But the Eagles (2-1) have made leaps and bounds from their winless 2016 season in which they scored a dismal 20 points combined. Through the first three games, TLCA is averaging more than their combined 2016 total at 29.3 points per game and have their first winning streak in two years. They'll have a tough test against the Colorado Wolves (2-1) this Friday in our LIVE! Game of the Week.

Offense: EVEN

Both Colorado City and TLCA are evenly matched when it comes to their offenses. TLCA is averaging 257 total yards of offense and Colorado City is at 234 yards. Both teams rely heavily on the ground game, as well. TLCA holds a slight advantage when running the ball with a 176 yards per game rushing average compared to Colorado City's 140.7 yard average rushing. Neither team will air the ball out in this game. Colorado shows more balance in their offense, throwing the ball 22% of the time compared to TLCA, who throws the ball just 12% of the time. Last week, TLCA's offense jumped out to a hot start outscoring Grape Creek 13-0 in the first quarter en route to a 40-22 win. Colorado City scored 20 unanswered points en route to a 33-13 win over a beleaguered Christoval team. These two offenses are about as even as they come. The only advantage on offense is TLCA's average points scored. The Eagles 29.3 points per game almost staggers Colorado City's 13.6 points per game average. But I'm not sure if that will be as big of an advantage as the two averages may suggest.

Defense: Advantage Colorado City, barely

Colorado City and TLCA are, for the most part, dead even on the defensive side of the ball too. The two squads are evenly matched in tackles and interceptions. TLCA has the advantage when it comes to interceptions, as the Eagles' secondary picked off Grape Creek four times last week. The Eagles also hold a slight advantage in the sack column with eight to Colorado City's six. Colorado City, however, has tackled ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage 20 times this season, which may not bode well for the Eagles. Colorado City's defense is also allowing roughly 14 points per game, while TLCA is allowing almost 28 points per game. That number is slightly misleading for TLCA as their defense allowed 55 points against Harper in week one.

This game should prove to be an old school, smashmouth game with the ball staying on the ground for the majority of the game.

Prediction: TLCA 21, Colorado City 17
