Coach Guy Notches 100th Win With Wall Hawks at Cisco

CISCO, TX— In Head Coach Houston Guy’s 100th win, the Wall Hawks defeated the Cisco Loboes 21-3 in a surprising battle of attrition on Friday night.

“To get [win 100] with these guys, in this fashion, in this game it means a lot,” said an exuberant Coach Guy. “We knew this was going to be a physical game going into it.”

The Hawks finished the night with just 271 yards rushing and 45 yards passing. Senior quarterback Brock Rosenquist finished with two touchdowns on the night. Senior Casey Braden also scored a touchdown himself.

Wall was also the beneficiary of multiple miscues from Cisco, as well as some big defensive plays.

"Hats off to our defense," Guy added after the game. "They dominated tonight and came up with some big stops for us. Without them, I don't know if this game would've turned out like this."

These two typically explosive teams started slow out of the gate, trading punts on their opening possessions. Once Wall got the ball back following a Cisco three-and-out, that’s when the Hawks went to work.

Senior quarterback Brock Rosenquist found a hole on the right side of Cisco’s defense and cut the ball up field to the Promised Land for the opening score of the game, putting Wall up 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

The scoring would remain quiet until the 10:04 mark in the second quarter when Casey Braden ran the ball in untouched from 30 yards out. Mitchell Horton’s extra point would put Wall up 14-0 in the second quarter.

Cisco looked like they were threatening midway in the second quarter when they were down inside Wall’s redzone. Drake Holifield would break up a pass by Cooper Whitt. "That was one of those plays we [practiced]," Guy mentioned of Holifield's pass defense. "[Drake] got great speed and skills. He made a great play for us there."  Israel Adame then connected on a 32 yard field goal to make the score 14-3.

Wall had a chance before the break but a fumble on a third down play with four seconds left ended the half.

The second half started off much like the first, with both teams unable to move the ball.

Midway through the third quarter, Mitchell Horton got off his best punt of the night with a 58 yarder to pin Cisco at their own two yard-line. Following that punt, Cisco managed to get two first downs but ultimately had to punt.

Wall took over on their own 30 yard-line and looked to have a drive going after a couple of first down gains. However, the Hawks would turn the ball over to Cisco.

On the very next play, Cooper Whitt found Adame for a huge gain of 50 yards to set Cisco up in Wall territory. Whitt would run the ball down to the one. From the one yard-line, Cisco tried to pitch the ball, but it was fumbled by Leslie Edgar and Wall recovered the ball on their own five yard-line where the third quarter would end.

On the next drive, Wall marched methodically 95 yards down the field where Rosenquist capped the drive, and the game’s scoring, with a nine yard touchdown run to put Wall up 21-3 midway through the fourth quarter.

Cisco, on the ensuing drive, took the ball to Wall’s 25 yard-line and was forced to go for it on fourth down. Wall’s defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs. The Hawks ran the clock out to seal the victory behind a couple of 12+ yard runs by Brock Rosenquist.

The Hawks move to 2-0 this season and will be back home on Friday, Sept. 15 to take on Lago Vista (2-0) at 7:30 p.m.
