Rodeo Drivers Watch the Bridges and Overpasses; Freezing Rain Forecast After Midnight
SAN ANGELO, TX -- According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory is in effect beginning at midnight tonight for the development of freezing rain and sleet. Roadways may become glazed over with light ice accumulations.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon Sunday for freezing rain and sleet. Temperatures should climb above freezing shortly after the noon hour on Sunday.
Areas of freezing rain and sleet will occur, leaving a glaze of ice on area roadways, including bridges and overpasses.
The NWS says the freezing precipitation will occur along and east of a line from Clyde to San Angelo to Sonora.
Use caution on area roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses. Slow down and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving.
UPDATED Saturday 5:30 p.m.
An approaching disturbance from the west combined with an arctic cold frontal passage will bring a possibility for freezing drizzle and freezing rain late Saturday night and Sunday morning.
This could result in some slick spots, mainly on elevated surfaces such as overpasses and bridges. Locations most likely to be impacted will be much of the area, except for the northwest Big Country.
Otherwise, keep in mind that temperatures could be at or below freezing for several hours so make sure to take care of sensitive plants, pets, and pipes. Also, wind chill values may be in the upper single digits to lower teens across the Big Country Sunday morning.
Any ice that does accumulate may create hazardous driving conditions so motorists are advised to take extra time and exercise caution, especially on the bridges and overpasses. At this point, only minor accumulations of ice are expected. However, continue to monitor future National Weather Service forecasts as additional updates will be possible.
