Iconic Urban Cowboy Singer Mickey Gilley Hurt in Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Country Music legend Mickey Gilley was injured in a two vehicle accident in East Texas on Wednesday.

According to reports from KTXS, Gilley suffered broken bones in the crash.  Susan Gilley said that Mickey suffered a broken ankle and shoulder, while her husband is sore, but otherwise okay. Susan said she went to Lufkin and, following medical treatment, she brought them back to Pasadena.

Word is that another driver ran a stop sign in front of them, and Michael Gilley swerved, but the SUV clipped the other vehicle which caused his SUV to roll over and landed upside-down in a median.

Gilley is now 81. He suffered a setback in 2009 when he was helping a neighbor move furniture. He fell down and a sofa fell on top of him, crushing four vertebrae. He was temporarily paralyzed, but following intense therapy he began to walk again, and returned to performing about a year later.

Mickey Gilley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Rev. Jimmy Swaggart are first cousins from Ferriday, Louisiana.

Gilley began experiencing success in the music business in the early 1970's, and his popularity exploded in 1980 with the release of the movie Urban Cowboy.
