Winter is Here: Dangerous Arctic Conditions to Continue Through Tuesday

The National Weather service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Concho Valley as Arctic Temperatures descend on West Texas.  Temperatures will dip below freezing tonight and remain below freezing until Wednesday morning.  

The National Weather Service forecasts bitter cold air Sunday through Tuesday and freezing drizzle across much of the Concho Valley through Sunday.  

A strong cold front has moved south across much of West Central Texas this afternoon. Behind the front, temperatures have already fallen below freezing from Interstate 20 northward. Freezing drizzle and light freezing rain is already occurring from Abilene to Sweetwater and areas to the north. Expect temperatures to continue to drop across the rest of West Central Texas this evening. Freezing drizzle will also develop farther south tonight, generally along and north of a Mertzon to San Angelo to Brownwood line. Bridges and overpasses will be icy tonight through Sunday.

Expect very cold temperatures, with lows in the teens Monday and Tuesday mornings. Temperatures will stay below freezing on Monday and Tuesday, with highs only in the mid and upper 20s. In addition, brisk north winds will result in wind chills falling into single digits for Sunday night. Dress warm for this very cold weather, including many layers plus a hat and gloves. Make sure to protect your pets and to cover any exposed pipes, including
outdoor water faucets.

There is a possibility of freezing drizzle, mixed with flurries through Sunday across much of the area. Patchy ice may lead to hazardous travel conditions. Motorists should be prepared for
extra travel time and slow down if freezing drizzle develops

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Frigid temperatures are on the way and there’s a chance for freezing precipitation Saturday night into Sunday morning.  

According to the National Weather Service, There is a possibility of freezing drizzle, mixed with flurries late Saturday night through Sunday across much of the area.  Patchy ice may develop on roads, especially bridges and overpasses, and may lead to hazardous travel conditions. The primary area of concern is north of a Mertzon to San Angelo to Brady line. Motorists should be prepared for extra travel time and slow down if freezing drizzle develops.
