Real or non-artificial trees are natural trees made of wood.  Artificial trees are made of plastic and metal and are not accepted for recycling.

From Tuesday, Dec. 26, through Sunday, Jan. 7, trees can be taken to the SAFE Recycling Center, 702 Warehouse Road, or to Foster Communications Coliseum parking lot, 50 E. 43rd St. Trees can be dropped off any time inside a marked area at each site. The City will run the trees through a chipper.

Trees must have all ornaments and decorations removed to prevent damage to the chippers.

Mulch from the chippers is available for free at the City’s landfill, 3002 Old Ballinger Highway. The landfill is open 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.

Also trash and curbside recycling is delayed by one day according to the city.

There will be no trash pickup on Christmas and New Year’s days. Garbage collection will be delayed one day from Dec. 25 through Jan. 5. So, Monday’s routes will be serviced on Tuesday. Tuesday’s routes will be serviced on Wednesday, and so on into Saturday during the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Routes for commercial customers will also lag by a day during that two-week span. City offices will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
