Motors, Meat and Music Draw Huge Crowd to Ruckus at the Rec Camp

SAN ANGELO, TX -- 52 vintage and modern show cars, trucks, and motorcycles, 14 world class chili and BBQ cooking teams and some of the best live music in Texas filled Goodfellow Air Force Base’s Rec Camp at Lake Nasworthy Saturday and judging by most accounts, it was a huge success.

The South US 277 BBQ competed in the BBQ and chili cookoffs.  Larry Russell says the team won the People’s Choice award for brisket and placed fourth in chicken.  The San Angelo team is prepping for next month’s Brews, Ewes and BBQ in downtown San Angelo.

Marshall Huling entered his immaculate vintage Ford Model T.  His entry was the oldest in the competition.

There was live music all day long at the Rec Camp on Lake Nasworthy.  Many military members and their families took advantage of Saturday’s moderate weather to stroll through the car show, listen to the live music and sample the BBQ.

According to Goodfellow’s 17th Force Support Squadron, Ruckus at the Rec Camp combined three separate events into this one day.  Active duty military members and everyone with a DOD ID were admitted free Saturday and civilians paid $5.

Many folks opted to purchase a $10 wrist band which allowed them to sample BBQ from all the teams Saturday afternoon after the competition.

H-E-B was a major sponsor of Ruckus at the Rec Camp and Dierschke & Dierschke Realtors had a booth as well.
