The Down Low on Ruckus at the Rec Camp this Saturday

SAN ANGELO, TX—What happens when you combine a world championship qualifying BBQ and chili cook-off with a gnarly car and motorcycle show and the raw, edgy energy and talent of one of Texas’ emerging Country Music stars in concert and host the whole thing in one day on Goodfellow AFB’s beautiful Rec Camp on Lake Nasworthy?

The 17th Force Support Squadron at Goodfellow AFB is betting Saturday is going to one great time for everyone.

The BBQ & Chili Cook-off gets underway at the Rec Camp at 8 a.m. Saturday and should finish up around 4 p.m. after the judging.  You can purchase a $10 unlimited BBQ tasting wristband.  The Chili cook -off is a single qualifying event for Terlingua International Competition.  The BBQ cook-off is sanctioned by the IBCA and cooks will be awarded cash prizes.

They’ll also have a cash prize determined by people’s choice for brisket and chili.

The Car and Motorcycle show should be as cool as they come.  The History Channel’s “Horney Mike” from the cable series ‘Counting Cars’ will be on hand.  The car show has several categories including the Top 20. Commander’s Choice, People’s Choice, and ‘Horney Mike’s’ Choice.  Cash prizes will be awarded.  All winners will receive a plaque and a trophy.  The Car and Motorcycle show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Airmen  of the 17th FSS will close Ruckus at the Rec Camp Saturday with Mark McKinney’s concert.  Texas Country music has a unique sound and Mckinney is at the forefront of it.  His concert kicks off at 8 p.m. and is scheduled through 10 p.m.

It’s fitting that the United States Air Force just celebrated it’s 70th birthday on Monday, September 18.

Admission to the day long celebration at the Goodfellow Rec Camp is free for all active duty military members and all those who hold an active DoD ID card.  The general public can attend for $5.  Children 12 and under are free.  You can buy a People’s Choice ballot and unlimited BBQ tasting wristband for $10, and beer is available for $2 per cup.
