Alert Fire Chief Flags Down Flaming Big Rig

SAN ANGELO, TX — An alert San Angelo Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Todd Sanford saw smoke and flames pouring out of the passenger side of a Mack truck and flagged down the driver just after noon today on the access road to the Houston Harte Expy., 6th Street.

According to Fire Marshal Ross Coleman, an electrical short in the passenger side light or turn signal light arced, catching fire, and the fire spread through the engine compartment.

The fire department dispatched swiftly, but before they arrived, the driver of the truck was able to extinguish the fire with an onboard fire extinguisher.

Fiberglass melted onto the front tire, but other than the hood melting, damage was minimal enough that the truck driver was able to drive the truck back to the nearby yard for repairs.
