Update 10:20 a.m.

The 9-1-1 call originated from a neighbor who reported smoke pouring out of the attic, Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said. The firefighters responded at 8:05 a.m. and immediately made an attack on the blaze. But because the fire is in the rafters up in the attic, the fire continued to spread even as firefighters battled the flames.

A second engine was dispatched to the scene for additional resources, Coleman said.

Coleman said the house appears to be vacant; no one is living there. But the garage area was used for storage. Firefighters had to cut out the garage door for better access.

“This fire is difficult to battle because of its nature,” Coleman said. Approximately 30 fire department personnel battled the blaze that lasted more than two hours. There were no injuries.
