San Angelo Performing Arts Center Announces First Full Season

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Performing Arts Center (SAPAC) officials announced their first full season of shows Thursday at a news conference inside the new center.

SAPAC is located at 82 Gillis Street near City Hall in the 44,000 square foot former Coca-Cola warehouse now known as the Stephens Performing Arts Center.  The Stephens Performing Arts Center includes the 400 seat Brooks and Bates Theatre, the Black Box performance space, San Angelo Ballet studios, offices and meeting rooms.  SAPAC also includes the Murphy Performance Hall formerly the San Angelo City Auditorium next door at the San Angelo City Hall. 

The 2017-2018 performance season includes the Broadway Series, the Dance series, the Ballet San Angelo series and the Underground series. 

SAPAC Executive Director Mark Levine announced details of the first full season.  Levine says the center allows National Broadway tours to perform here for the first time in decades. “This season we welcome award winning performances from all over the world, many of whom will be making their debut in San Angelo and Texas.  There are more award-winning events coming to San Angelo than have hit the city before; we have Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Olivier, Obie, and Emmy award winners this season.”

Levin said they are thrilled to open the Murphy Performance Hall November 1 with the Vienna Boys Choir.  The Vienna Boys Choir is an ensemble of 23 to 26 boys ages 10 to 14 who perform all over the world.  Tickets for the performance are $19 - $64. 

The Broadway Series includes three shows; Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, Million Dollar Quartet and Chicago the Musical.

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is billed as the most successful Rock and Roll musical about Lubbock native Buddy Holly.  Performances are November 10-11, 2017 in the Murphy Performance Hall and tickets are $29 - $86. 

Million Dollar Quartet is based on the one night in 1956 that Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for a recording session.  The performances are in the Murphy Performance Hall February 9-10 2018 and tickets are $29 - $86.

Chicago the Musical is the longest-running American Musical in Broadway's history.  Performances are in the Murphy Performance hall May 4 and 5, 2018 and tickets are $29 - $86.

The Dance series includes Ballet Trockadero, Diavolo and Rhythmic Circus among others.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is a ballet parody.  The performance is January 17, 2018 in the Murphy Performance Hall and tickets are $21 - $69.

Diavolo Architecture in Motion is described as a fusion of many ballet movements.  The performance is March 20, 2018 in the Murphy Performance Hall and tickets are $29 - $69.

Rhythmic Circus is billed as a holiday musical.  The Performance is November 20, 2017 in the Murphy Performance Hall and tickets are $21 - $64. 

The Ballet San Angelo Series includes the Nutcracker, Innovative Works: Juxtaposed, and Robin Hood and Maid Marian.

The Nutcracker is returning this year to the Murphy Performance Hall for the first time in ten years.  The ballet includes all new choreography.  The Nutcracker runs December 15 through the 17 and tickets are $10 - $45. 

Innovative Works: Juxtaposed is described as a unique mix of contemporary and classic work.  Performances are March 23 and 24, 2018 in the Brooks and Bates Theatre and tickets are $17 - $25.

Robin Hood and Maid Marian is a children’s production May 18-20, 2018 in the Brooks and Bates Theatre and tickets are $17 - $25.

The Underground series of performances are for adults only and include shows like Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus Live, Musical Thrones; A Parody and the One-Man Star Wars Trilogy.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus Live is based on the bestselling book and is an off Broadway hit.  Performances are July 21 and 22, 2017 in the Brooks and Bates Theatre and tickets are $45.

Musical Thrones: A Parody is of the HBO show Game of Thrones.  Performances are March 13-15, 2018 in the Brooks and Bates Theatre and tickets are $30.

The One-Man Star Wars Trilogy is billed as a one man show with no costumes, no sets and no props.  Performances are May 1st and 2nd 2018 in the Brooks and Bates Theatre and tickets are $30.
