City Hosts 3 Fun Filled Summer Events on June 3rd

SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a trio of family-friendly special events Saturday, June 3, two of which are free.

Parks and Recreation will celebrate the summer season opening of The Bosque with washer-pitching, mini golf and sand volleyball tournaments. Registration for all three competitions will be from 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. on June 3 at The Bosque, located at  330 S. Irving St. Games begin at 11:30 a.m.

Entry fees for the washer-pitching tournament will be $40 per team, with a 30-team limit. The format will be double-elimination, with cash prizes for the first- through third-place teams. There will be a 100-percent payout.

The putt-putt tournament costs $10 per person. The three lowest scores win cash prizes.

The sand volleyball tournament will include coed teams of six players, with an entry fee of $10 per person. Registration is limited to the first six teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place squads.

The Grove concession stand not only sells drinks and snacks, but also rents paddle boats, putters and balls for mini golf, and washers, bocce balls and oversized chess pieces for The Bosque’s game court.

The annual Fishing Derby will be from 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m. June 3. Registration for the free event is at 7 a.m. at Celebration Bridge, next to the RiverStage and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Anglers must bring their own poles and bait. Free doughnuts and juice will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Prizes will be given to the top anglers by age division.

A rededication of the “Rebirth of an Old Friend” buffalo wallow at the corner of Veterans’ Memorial Drive and Irving Street will be at 11:30 a.m. Richard Salmon created the artistic cutout buffalos in 2003. They were first placed at El Paseo de Santa Angela. The wallow moved to its new location last year. “Rebirth of an Old Friend” is dedicated to the late local author Elmer Kelton, a famed writer of westerns.

Love Municipal Pool opens Saturday, May 27, from noon-6 p.m. Admission will be $2 per person from noon-2 p.m. Afterward, admission will be the normal rate of $5 per person.
