Crazy Bill Rides Again and Files to Run for Former Seat

 

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – After former single member district 1 councilman Bill Richardson’s scandalous Facebook posts went viral for all the wrong reasons, Richardson resigned from his city council seat on March 2. Now, Richardson's former council seat remains open until May 6, when a special election will take place to find a new candidate to fill the two years of the seat's unexpired term. In a surprising turn of events, Bill Richardson has filed his candidacy for his former city council seat.

In a meandering interview broadcasted via Facebook Live, Richardson said he originally resigned because his family was under attack. "Now that is settled," he said. He mentioned a few projects he was working on, while on the city council, that he still wants to finish. Watch:

Bill Richardson’s application marks the fourth candidate to file for the SMD1 seat. Those who previously filed their candidacies In the special election are:

  • Tommy Hiebert
  • Anna Bartosh
  • Darrin Fentress

Fentress filed to run yesterday.

Filings will continue through March 27. Candidate packets can be downloaded at cosatx.us/May2017. Physical copies are available in the City Clerk’s office in Room 210 on the second floor of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. The office is open weekdays 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Candidates file the necessary paperwork in the City Clerk’s office. Voters can look at a map of the City Council districts at cosatx.us/council. Determining which district one lives in can be determined by clicking the GIS map viewer on the same page.
Voters must be registered to vote by April 7 to vote in the May 6 election. Voter registration information can be found at votetomgreencounty.org; in the Tom Green County Election/Voter Registration Office on the first floor of the Edd B. Keyes Building, 113 W. Beauregard Ave.; and at all three Tom Green County library locations.

Those who filed their candidacies for District 2, 4 ,6 and mayor for the regularly scheduled election are as follows:

  • Mayor – Tony Villarreal, Brenda Gunter, Charlotte Farmer, Zach Taylor.
  • District 2 – Tom Thompson.
  • District 4 – Lucy Gonzales, Chris Giroux.
  • District 6 – Steve Hampton, Rebekah Coffman, Billie F. DeWit
