Enjoy a Posada Festivity

The 15th annual Posada Christmas event will be held at the McNease Convention Center at 501 Rio Concho Dr. from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Gaby Gasper, event planner for the Posada, said there will be great food accompanied by some live musical entertainment. This includes Mariachi Alma Mexicana, DJ Jamie and saxophonist Romi.

Gasper said it's important to host Posadas because it allows for those who grew up with Mexican culture to reminisce during the festive season. This is especially true with families who move to the U.S. from Mexico.

Gasper said it provides the feeling of familiarity and allows everyone to come together and enjoy this pre-Christmas celebration.

The Mexican dinner will include tamales, ponche, bunuelos, champurrado and donuts.

Santa Clause will also make a guest appearance, and promises to bring candy for all the children who attend.

There will also be a toy drive during the event. Those who want to donate may bring toys to the Posada.
