Cinco De Mayo Thunder in the Conchos at the El Paseo

The Southside Lions Club sponsored the Cinco De Mayo "Thunder in the Conchos" Car, Truck & Bike Show this past weekend at the El Paseo in downtown San Angelo. The money that is raised at events like these is used to help local children with things like eyeglasses and scholarships for college.

Saturday afternoon the winners of the car show were announced. Under the parking pavilion was a large crowd watching as the awards were given.  Everything from low riders to bicycles, Volkswagens, and beautifully restored custom painted hot rods entered in this year’s event.

As the sun set,  The San Angelo Ballet Azteca dancers, swung their colorful dresses against the pink background of the dusk sky in time with the music. The crowd was clapping along with the beat, applauded and let out yelps of approval at the end of the show.

Mariachi Alma Mexicana entertained afterwards.
According to mariachi.org, and a report on the history of mariachi, mariachis often help celebrate the great moments in the lives of the Mexican people. In many areas of Mexico, it is not unusual to be awakened by the sound of Las Mañ anitas, the traditional song for saints days, or birthdays performed by a mariachi band.

Vendors with authentic, traditional Mexicans foods were for sale throughout the day and night. A small side carnival was set up close to the dancing area, near the deejay booth, until Sunday evening.
