Fire Department Saves House from Grease Fire in Kitchen

A family backyard barbeque may have distracted the cook that led to a kitchen fire, Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said. Friends were gathered at a home on Tracie Trail in southeast San Angelo, past Goodfellow AFB, off Christoval Road early Sunday evening.

On the stove, the resident was heating cooking oil in a pan. Something distracted the cook, and within 10 minutes, the kitchen was on fire.

Coleman said the San Angelo Fire Department performed a fast attack on the kitchen. “When we arrived, there were active flames in the kitchen,” he said. Luckily, because the fire was extinguished so quickly, there was very minimal damage, Coleman said.

No one was in the residence when the fire broke out. They were in the backyard. No one was injured.

The fire marshal ruled the cause of the fire as “unattended cooking.”
