Crew Cab Pickup Burns at San Angelo State Park

A pickup truck caught fire at the San Angelo State Park Wednesday night just before 10 p.m.

The Grape Creek VFD responded and quickly extinguished the blaze, though not before the crew cab pickup, that appears to be a Ram or Dodge, was completely destroyed.

The San Angelo State Park has campsites for rent for overnight campers. This appears to have been the vehicle for two or three men at a campsite.

Park rangers are investigating the circumstances of the fire.

Update 10:35 p.m.

Scott Martin of Midland was camping at the park with friends. It was his truck. “We were sitting here listening to the radio and went to air-up the air mattress, and I looked out the tent and there was a glow, a big ‘ol glow,” Martin said. “I got 20-30 feet from it and it started poppin’ and I took off from that to get away from it.” Martin called 911. His truck was a 2014 Ram 1500, he said.
